It is safe to say that people today are now living online, almost entirely. This is the vision that the world’s first social media platforms saw and envisioned for the future of humanity. And they were right, as today, almost everyone lives most of their lives online.
To understand how this affects online marketers today, we first have to understand the evolution of traditional advertising and marketing in the technological world. This means we have to understand what happened as television advertisements progressed, as similar to how people are “living online,” they spent a great portion of their time watching TV. In the beginning, television advertising was extremely lucrative and sought after. This is primarily because television was new and television advertising was unsaturated. It is worth noting that Steve Jobs believed even a couple of kids in a garage could put a major corporation out of business overnight. He’s not wrong.
